Alexis Heins – Going for the Podium
Alexis is a proud member of the 2022-2023 NBS Competition Team. She is an Alpine skier and a member of the NBS Eastern Region - Nubian Empire Ski Club in New York. At the age of 15, she has been skiing for 13 years and competing for 10 years. She is in the Hunter Mountain program in Hunter, New York.
On June 24, 2022, Alexis (15th years old) boarded a Swiss Air Lines flight from John F Kennedy Airport in New York City and landed in Geneva International Airport in Saconnex, Switzerland over 3,850 miles away from home. She trained at the Les 2 Alpes, France Camp from June 24 to July 5, 2022. Below are her words on what she experienced:
- Enjoyed a new-found freedom
- Experienced a new country and some of its' cultures and foods
- Was provided additional training time on snow with a new perspective from different coaches
- Had the ability to train with athletes from all over the world
On October 22 & 23, 2022, Alexis attended the Don’t Just Ski 2022 Full Training Camp in East Rutherford, NJ. Below are her words on what she experienced:
- Enjoyed the camp very much regardless of the 5:45a m snow time. Lol!
- Enjoyed experiencing some new coaching methods offered and the positive extra time on snow!
- How cool it was to see the Big Snow (an indoor skiing and snowboarding park)
being utilized by so many other athletes wanting to improve their game!
- Seeing some old friends and coaches, and meeting and making new ones.
At the age of 15, her long-time goal is to win High School States and podium in as many USSSA races as possible. She is committed to balancing her schoolwork and skiing goals.

• - This Bristol Mountain race was the biggest race of her career and she qualified for EASTERNS.
** - Alexis was crowned by Olympian Sarah Escobar.
