Rosemarie Gilkes – Climbing to the Top

Rosemarie is a proud member of the 2022-2023 NBS B Team and a member of the Spyder Scholarship Program. NBS B Team athletes train several days a week and compete in at least 4 competitions throughout the year.

Rosemarie is a member of the NBS Eastern Region – Thrillseekers Ski Club in New York. She has been skiing for 11 years and competing for eight years. Her parents introduced her to the sport of skiing when she was three years old.

In the Fall of 2022, Rosemarie started attending The Holderness School in Holderness, New Hampshire. She is a member of the Holderness School Alpine Race Team. She attended her first training camp the Summer of 2023 in Switzerland with The Holderness School, and during Thanksgiving, she was able to train with her team in Sunday River, Maine.

In the words of Rosemarie: Being a scholarship recipient for the past few years has driven me to success. I have pushed myself beyond my limits to make sure that I earn your scholarship and continue receiving the NBS support. It is very important to be a role model and to also be a positive representative for the NBS.

The scholarship will help pay for my summer training with the school in Switzerland and all the race fees and expenses. I know this extra training time will greatly improve my standings in New Hampshire and I aspire to medal on the podiums. I have set my mind to winning and want stop until I keep climbing to the top.

During the past session she raced in the US Ski and Snowboard competition and finished first in all but one race.

  • U14 Women’s Giant Slalom at Mount Peter, February 6, 2022, First Place
  • U14 Women’s Giant Slalom at Mountain Creek, First Place
  • U14 Women’s Slalom at Mount Peter, March 6, 2022, First Place

During the past season Rosemarie participated in the Division or State races:

  • Eastern Championships at Sugarbush, VT ranked 75th out of 93 which was her first time at a Championship 1
  • Giant Slalom which is a discipline she never raced or trained in and placed 44th

For the 2022-2023 season, Rosemarie is setting a goal to make the Eastern Championships or Eastern Finals. “I will work endlessly to achieve this while maintain stellar grades. I will give it my best and reach for the stars!”

Rosemarie’s three goals for the 2022-2023 upcoming season are to:

  • Ski technically and flawless
  • Attack each turn with power

Rosemarie’s goal is to attend the Eastern Championships again and the Junior Olympics.
