Jackson Fellows – Speeding Down the Mountain

Jackson is excited to be a member of the 2022-2023 Team NBS. Jackson is a member of the NBS Eastern Region – Blazers Ski Club. He is 11 years old and has been skiing since he could walk. He has been competing for 6 years. He is a member of the Pico Ski Team. The Pico Ski Club mission is to focus on junior ski racing programs and is located at the base of Pico Mountain in Killington, VT.

This is Jackson’s first season with the NBS. And Jackson attended the NBS Summit in Vail for the NBS 50th Anniversary. At the Summit he was able to meet and ski with his fellow Team NBS athletes. He feels that being part of Team NBS is awesome. He feels really lucky to be one of the few Black ski racers in Vermont.

Jackson’s winter program trains 3 days a week and on school vacations. He attended 2 training this past season:

  • Vermont Alpine Race Association (VARA) Slalom Camp at Quechee, VT
  • Vermont Alpine Race Association (VARA Speed Camp at Okemo, VT

Here are 3 of his top race results:

  • 11th Place Pico SL
  • 9th Place Okemo GS
  • 6th Place Killington Dual GS

For Jackson the NBS Scholarship will pay for coaching fees at Pico and help him reach his goals for the season.  His goal is to improve his slalom skiing and be one of the best U12s in the State.

In the words of Jackson, he has 3 goals for the 2022-2023 ski season:

  • Learn to clear slalom gates more efficiently, without losing speed or sacrificing my line
  • Improve the ability to keep an edge on steeps and ice
  • Participate in speed camps to become more comfortable with Super G skiing

Jackson’s long-term goal in his words is simple: “I want to be a World Cup racer!”
