NASTAR FAQs

  1. What is NASTAR?
NASTAR stands for NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public grassroots ski racing program in the world. Founded in 1968, NASTAR gives recreational racers an opportunity to compete and compare scores with friends and racers across the country using the NASTAR handicap system.

  2. What does NASTAR mean to me?
You are an athlete and what better way to gage your skills against your peers. Whether you are a casual and serious competitor, do NASTAR! NBS needs representation.

  3. Am I required to create a NASTAR ID to race?
No. If you don't have an ID, one will be created for you when the resort uploads race day results to NASTAR. However, we recommend you create your own ID to avoid any mishaps.

  4. How do I create a NASTAR ID?
Just smash on the NASTAR logo to the left and you will be taken to nastar.com. When you land there smash REGISTER in the header.

  5. Where do I enter my NASTAR ID?
You can enter your ID during the NBS race registration process.

  6. Can Snowboard or Telemark racers get a NASTAR ID?
Absolutely! There is a Racer Discipline dropdown in the NASTAR registration process. Just pick your poison!

  7. How do my race times get recorded?
Race results can be updated near real-time if the resorts timing system is connected or the resort uploads race day race results to NASTAR.

  8. What Club Team should I choose when I register on the NASTAR site?
Search for NBS. Most racers should pick NBS but you will see other NBS clubs listed with a NBS prefix so choose what best applies to you.

<<<   RULES TO REMEMBER   >>>

  1. All racers should inspect the course prior to race.
  2. No free skiing on the race course.
  3. Ski slow or side slip down to the start area.
  4. All reruns will be allowed once the racer arrives back at the start.
  5. You are disqualified if you lose a ski on course, except for the last four gates.
  6. You are disqualified if you miss one or more gates.
  7. If a gate is missing, ski off the course immediately and do not go through the finish. See an official at the finish area to confirm you get a rerun.
